Guillermo Cabrera-Vives is an assistant professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Concepción. He holds Bachelors degrees in Astronomy and Computer Science from the University of Chile and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the same institution.

His work is focused on developing new algorithms for massive astronomical data. He has worked with data from a wide variety of instruments such as ALMA, SDSS, HST, and the LSST among others. Guillermo is currently member of the Millenium Institute of Astrophysics, where he is developing new machine learning and computer vision algorithms for the next generation of telescopes.

Guillermo is a founding member of the Astroinformatics Laboratory at the Center for Mathematical Modeling, University of Chile. He has co-chaired three data-science for astronomy schools in La Serena, and been part of many organizing committees in conferences, workshops, and schools related to Astroinformatics. His main motivation lies on development of statistical and computational capacities for astronomical data analysis, as the installment of the next-generation of telescopes in Chile presents a huge opportunity for developing new data-science infrastructure.

Guillermo Cabrera-Vives es profesor asistente del Departamento de Ciencias de la Computación de la Universidad de Concepción. Obtuvo sus Licenciaturas en Astronomía y Ciencias de la Computación en la Universidad de Chile y su Doctorado en la misma institución.

Trabaja en el desarrollo de nuevos algoritmos para el análisis de grandes volúmenes de datos astronómicos. Ha trabajado con datos provenientes de una gran variedad de instrumentos, tales como ALMA, SDSS, HST y el LSST entre otros. Como miembro del Instituto Milenio de Astrofísica, Guillermo está desarrollando nuevos algoritmos de aprendizaje automático y visión computacional para la siguiente generación de telescopios.

Guillermo es miembro fundador del Laboratorio de Astroinformática del Centro de Modelamiento Matemático de la Universidad de Chile. Ha sido co-chair de tres escuelas en data science en La Serena, y ha participado en los comités de varias conferencias, workshops y escuelas relacionadas con Astroinformática. Su motivación principal es el desarrollo de capacidades estadísticas y computacionales para el análisis de datos astronómicos masivos, debido a que la instalación de la siguiente generación de telescopios en Chile presenta una inmensa oportunidad para desarrollar nueva infraestructura en ciencia de datos.
