III MAS Workshop, 2016

[:en]We are excited to announce the upcoming celebration of the 3rd MAS Workshop! Our 2016 meeting will be held in Viña del Mar, on December 14th and 15th.

The main focus of the workshop this year is to let EVERYONE at MAS briefly show the work they are doing to the whole MAS community. With this spirit in mind, it has been decided that our 2016 meeting will be a Jamboree of short presentations (5 minutes with 3 slides), by EVERYONE willing to present, from our most senior researchers to our youngest undergrad students.

Moreover, we want to emphasize the main original scientific goal of MAS, and therefore we strongly encourage EVERYONE to include/stress in your short presentations how your work links to the fields and tools of Astrostatistics and Data Science.

So please save the dates, and come to share your work with the rest of the MAS members. We hope to see you all soon in Viña del Mar.

Venue

Our meeting will be held at the Best Western Marina del Rey Hotel, in Viña del Mar. Just before our workshop , another meeting that could be of interest to you, “Towards Science in Chile with LSST” 2016, will be held on the same location.

Registration

Please, fill up the form that you can find here

Presentations

MAS members should aim to present their work in no more than 5 minutes, with no more than 3 slides. Slides must be in PDF format and must be written in English. Presenters are required to present in English, with the exception of undergrad students who are allowed to do it in Spanish.

While preparing your presentation, please remember we are especially interested in hearing how your work will make use of the big astronomical databases that are currently in use (VVV, HiTS,ASSA-SN,SDSS,…) or will be available in the next years (LSST, Apogee-2, VVV-X,…) and how Astrostatiscs can help you.

Instructions on how to upload your presentation will be given at a later stage.

Logistics

As in previous occasions, no registration fee would be charged to participants and hotel lodging and meal expenses would be covered by MAS. Additionally, MAS will provide a bus for participants from Santiago to Viña and return. More information will be provided at a later stage, but the bus will probably leave from downtown Santiago early in December 14th, and will come back from Viña late on December 15th.
