Francisco Förster

I work on supernova science and astroinformatics, and have worked in many areas of astronomy, from theory to observations, data analysis and instrumentation.

I did my Ph.D. studies in Oxford University with Prof. Philipp Podsiadlowski on theoretical studies of Type Ia supernova. I have B.Sc.’s in Engineering Sciences and Astronomy at Universidad de Chile. I led the installation of the first Chilean robotic telescope at CTIO and I was a Fondecyt postdoc studying the progenitors of Type Ia supernova.

I am the P.I. of the High cadence Transient Survey (HiTS), looking for supernova just after explosion analyzing DECam data in real-time in an interdisciplinary effort. I enjoy learning new things with people working in different areas.[/fusion_text][fusion_text]

Trabajo en estudios de supernovas y astroinformática y he trabajado en varias áreas de la astronomía, desde la teoría a las observaciones, el análisis de datos y la instrumentación. Hice my Ph.D. en la Universidad de Oxford con el Prof. Philipp Podsiadlowski sobre estudios teóricos de SNe Ia.

Tengo licenciaturas en Ciencias de la Ingeniería y en Astronomía de la Universidad de Chile. Lideré la instalación del primer telescopio robótico chileno en CTIO y fui postdoc Fondecyt estudiando los progenitores de SNe Ia. Soy el investigador principal del projecto High cadence Transient Survey (HiTS), que busca supernovas justo después de su explosión analizando datos de DECam en tiempo real en un esfuerzo interdisciplinario.
