I’m the only geologist working on meteorites in Chile in the last ~10 years. Going on scientific expeditions to the Atacama desert, we have found more than 500 meteorites, the biggest collection in SouthAmerica so far, part of located at CEREGE, France, and part at the new repository (status pendant) of meteorites at the Center of Astro-Engineering, at PUC, that I’m carrying out.

My research lines are:

Study of the flux of extraterrestrial matter to Earth in the last 2 My with hot desert meteorites.
Understanding how terrestrial weathering affects primitive meteorites.
Exploring and characterizing new impact structures in Chile (Monturaqui crater, and new tektite strewnfield in the North of Chile).
Developing the first chilean camera network for fireball detection and meteorite recovery.

Soy la única geóloga en Chile que estudia meteoritos hace ~10 años. A través de las expediciones al desierto de Atacama hemos encontrado más de 500 ejemplares, una de las colecciones más grandes de America del Sur, distribuidas actualmente en la colección del CEREGE en Francia, y recientemente en el nuevo repositorio de meteoritos en el Centro de Astro-Ingeniería de la PUC, que estoy montando.

Mis lineas de investigación principales son:

Estudio del flujo de material extraterrestre a la Tierra en los últimos 2 Ma con meteoritos de desiertos calientes.
Estudio de procesos de meteorización en meteoritos tipo condritos.
Exploración y caracterización de estructuras de impactos y sus derivados en Chile (cráter Monturaqui y nuevo campo de tektitas en el norte de Chile).
Desarrollo de la primera red chilena de cámaras de monitoreo de fireballs y recuperación de meteoritos.
